Module 2 Begins!

Our first big unit/module of the year is complete, and it is time to talk about positive and negative numbers.  A parent guide with the main topics can be found here.  Students will practice adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers with tiles and number lines and then move on to multiplication/division.  We will continue working with whole numbers, decimals and fractions.  If you are looking for more math fact practice, frontrowed.com is a great place to get extra practice.

We have now finished the first half of our first module!  You all are quite the proportional thinkers- interpreting graphs, tables, and word problems using your proportional reasoning.  As we continue to add to our knowledge, we will look at proportional relationships with fractional parts and how we can use proportional thinking to solve many challenging problems.

Welcome 7th graders!  I'm so excited to see all of you and work with you this year in math.  We are getting started with proportional relationships (extending your ratio knowledge from 6th grade math).  Then we have percentages, angles and algebra, probability, and much more throughout the year.

Equations, Tables, Graphs

Our 6th grade algebra journey is coming to an end with independent and dependent variables and writing equations from scenarios.  Next week we will solve and graph inequalities and take our end of module assessment on Wednesday.  March 7 will begin our geometry module- shapes, area, nets, surface area and volume explorations are headed our way!

Coordinate Planes and Algebra!

Welcome back!  I hope that everyone had a great winter break and was able to enjoy some time with family!  This short week we will be looking at the coordinate plane (plotting points, distance between points, symmetry, etc.) and finish up Module 3 with a coordinate plane mapping activity.
Starting next week, we will be moving into Module 4- Algebra and Expressions.  This is one of my favorite parts of the year- and I look forward to sharing it with this class!  We will be using algebra tiles- manipulatives that help us "see" the math and move things around more easily.  I can't wait to get started!
